The Division of Barton was created in 1922. It is named for Rt Hon Sir Edmund Barton (1849-1920), NSW MP 1879-94, 1897-1900, a leader of the federal movement in NSW, federal MP 1901-03, Prime Minister 1901-03 (first Prime Minister).
