The Division of Perth was created in 1901. It is named for the City of Perth (named by Captain James Stirling in 1829, after Perth, Scotland. Sir George Murray (1772-1846), who was Colonial Secretary at the time Perth was founded, was born near Perth, Scotland, and was MP for Perthshire in the House of Commons.)
